Annual Men’s Retreat

Saint Joseph in Nipomo.

NIPOMO – The Knights of Columbus (council 8177) of the parish of Saint Joseph, 298 S. Thompson Avenue, will be having their second annual Men’s Retreat on Saturday, 24 September 2022, from 9am until 4pm.

This conference about the Sacrament of the Eucharist will be led by Fr “Skip” Thompson:

Jesus’ greatest “Show and Tell” on Earth was his teaching about His Real Presence in the Eucharist. It began prior to his famous “Bread of Life” discourse in Capernaum when Jesus set the stage with 2 amazing one-of-a-kind miracles. Then, after He delivered His controversial discourse, He explained at the Last Supper how we could receive His Body and Blood. But he wasn’t done. After His Resurrection Jesus continued to reinforce His claim and command that we consume His Real Eucharistic Presence. That we should just be inspired by a mere “symbol” was never Jesus intention. So, how does His Real Presence come to us in the bread and wine? The Council of Trent used the term: “Transubstantiation” to explain the change into the Body and Blood of Christ. What does that entail? Understanding the mystery of the transubstantiation of the Eucharist requires “faith and reason.” So, we’ll examine the best that Science can tell us about “substance” to gain a deep knowledge of our temporal realities, and in turn this will help us understand how the greatest mystery of our faith–Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist–is not only possible, but truly accomplished by the Holy Spirit in the Mass.

Doors open at 8am and the retreat will begin at 9am, concluding with confessions and Mass at 5pm. Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided.

There is no cost to attend this retreat, which is open to all men.
